Gary L. Bernes, MAI, ISHC is president of Bernes and Company, a real estate consulting and appraising firm. He has been a member of the Appraisal Institute since 1983.
Mr. Bernes has appraised
internationally and throughout the United States.
He is a charter member and past President and Chairman of the International
Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) . His expertise in the hospitality
industry includes valuation and feasibility studies for hotels, resorts, golf
and tennis facilities, mixed-use developments and time-share and resort vacation
clubs. His firm also provides litigation support and tax arbitration services.
He has served on several occasions on the Educational Advisory Board for the
annual Hotel/Motel Owners and Investors Conference in Atlanta.
In 1995, he served as President of the Atlanta Area Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and in 1993, 1994, and 1995 served as Regional Representative on the Board of Directors of the Appraisal Institute.
In 1999, Georgia Governor Zell Miller appointed Mr. Bernes to the Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board. Mr. Bernes was a member of the Georgia Appraisers Board for approximately six years. In 2001/2002 he served as Vice-Chairman and in 2003/2004 he served as Chairman.
Mr. Bernes lectures frequently throughout the United States. Since 1990, he has taught “Standards of Professional Practice” for the Appraisal Institute and is an approved USPAP Instructor for the Appraisers Qualification Board. He has authored articles for The Appraisal Journal, American Society of Real Estate Counselors, The Georgia Appraiser, and the Hotel Management International 2002.
Mr. Bernes received his BBA from the University of Georgia. He is a licensed real estate broker in Georgia and a licensed salesperson in Florida.
A lifelong resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Bernes resides in suburban Atlanta with his wife, Debra.
